Making our annual fall trip to South Carolina, we ventured over to Aiken to meet up with my new friend Mary Jane Howell, who does PR for Dogwood Stable. Mary Jane and I met at our friend Bob Witham's memorial last March and I told her I felt I was coming to see a best friend when I saw her last week.
She gave us a tour of Dogwood's barn, where we saw the Tappit colt offered to us this past summer. He needed to be gelded and I thought another trainer was interested in taking him so we decided it was in the horse's best interest to remain at the track. Hayes, of course, fell in love with Ginger Snappit. Really interesting color. One of my highlights was getting to meet Dogwood's trainer Ron Stevens. And our visit wouldn't have been complete without meeting Mary Jane's mare, Llama. Llama acted like she'd never had carrots before in her life! Too funny.
We lunched outside on a lovely South Carolina day and looked over the Dogwood Stable wall that Mary Jane maintains for the restaurant. Then it was time to head to Charleen's for a lot of lizard catching!
