Friday night grand entry at Rosebud pow wow

One of the most important parts of this trip was ensuring Hayes and Chooj participated in their culture and danced in the Rosebud pow wow. Friday night brought the first grand entry of tribes and Grandma helped Chooj dress to go in once he saw his sister and his cousins were all going to dance.
Personally, I'd never seen so many dancers and never heard so many drums. 29 drums Friday night! I didn't get their name, but the drum in front of us prepares her for singing.
Here are Hayes and Chooj and some of their Good Shield cousins about to go in for grand entry.
This is cousin Leah. She and Chooj are the same age.
This one had the children go in first followed by the adults then the color guard, symbolizing children are the future and protected by this ring of elders. It was reversed for Saturday's grand entry.
Uh-oh, warrior down!
And we figure we've been using all the wrong tactics to get Chooj to sleep. You just get loud pow wow drumming and a little bit of dancing and that kid is out like a light.
