Outdoor Nature Hour: moss, lichen and snow!

We have an inch of snow on the ground and so we took to exploring. On our challenge this week is examining moss and lichen. So what better way to do it than down in our creek with snow on the ground and sleet coming down?

There's lots of moss on Peeper Island trees! And the kids sat on one shaped like a giraffe.

Great day for nature study. :)

I was reading in a book this week about the winter's way of focusing us on colors. Absent are the green grasses and leaves of summer and we can see more clearly the colors of things like lichen and moss.

I think the book is right.

Thanks for sharing your nature study.

I would love to use the photo of your kids in the tree for the Outdoor Hour Photo of the Week. Please let me know if that is okay with you.

Thanks so much,

Lovely study! We don't often get any snow to play in (or study in) around here!
