Hawk rescue

As we were out yard-saling Saturday, we blew by this bird in the road. We said,"What's up with that bird?" So we turned around and it was this baby red-tail hawk. We stood there awhile and looked for the parents and, upon seeing none, took the baby home.

He/she stayed in a dog crate and we fed it ground hamburger meat. We tried putting it in our chicken pen but our useless rooster started doing some kind of crazy dance around it and we figured that was not a good sign and Alex carried the hawk around on his shoulder.
Yesterday it went to RAPTOR Inc. in Ohio where it can grow up and be released into the wild. We felt honored to have gotten to spend a little time with this baby and to send it on its way.
I'm not advocating picking up wild animals, especially babies, but this one seemed to be a bit dazed and not flying well. We did the right thing in contacting a wildlife rehabber to take it.
