Field trip: Kentucky Derby Museum
Hayes and I had a performance out of town and on the way back we toured the Kentucky Derby Museum at Churchill Downs. I tried to get her to stand at the backside fence and look cute and pitiful so we could get in to see horses, but no go.
She was excited to see displays of Mine That Bird everywhere since she chose him to win the derby this year.
Her favorite thing was the virtual horse race. She did it four different times! We had to wait for a bunch of kids to get through with it - they all just sat and flapped their reins. I said to Hayes when it was her turn,"Now show them how it's done."
Just look at her determination!
I did it once and it was the longest two minutes of my life! I had to sit down afterwards. Feel the burn!
We sat on the horse in the gate to mirror our profile against the jockey's. Hayes looked really good. I just look too big :(
This is Hayes at the finish line of Churchill Downs:
This is why I'm a stickler about attire at my derby parties ... because Churchill is:
This is what I found really interesting. This index card was the contract between the trainer and jockey back in 1891.
Afterwards, we ate at Wagner's Pharmacy across from the racetrack.
