Seems to be Chooj's week for learning

Hayes is so independent that I often just let her do her work and I play on the computer, allowing Chooj to just find his way. If I get really motivated and organized, I'll have him "do school" as Hayes works on her projects.
We are really having a hard time with spelling, which baffles me. Hayes is such a good reader that I assumed she would just take to spelling. Most of the time, she doesn't even try. So I employed our pocket chart and encouraged her to follow my cards - consonant/vowel/consonant or vowel/consonant - and come up with words. She did it and was pretty proud of herself. I was proud of her too.

I made Chooj a color wheel earlier this week. I think I found it on a Tot School blog entry. We've done this three times this week and he has really taken to it. These pictures are of the first time he attempted matching colors on the wheel.

This afternoon, he pulled out his Thomas the Tank Engine shape cards and lined them up. He told me the names of all the engines and even identified a triangle. My next project will be a shape wheel using the Thomas shapes.
