More uses for a kiddie pool than you might know

Snow! There was about 4 or 5 inches of it today then it sleeted heavily this afternoon. More snow is called for tomorrow. While our two old mares have blankets, the pony doesn't and all three have icicles hanging from their manes. It looks pitiful.
Our first attempts at sledding with cookie sheets a couple of weeks ago failed miserably. I remembered we had kickboards in our pool stuff so we got those out today. Still not very usable. Alex blew up a pool tube and, in the meantime, we got out the blue kiddie pool that kept the kids wet and cool last summer. Now we were talkin'!

It was the perfect mechanism for sledding down hills and provided a lot of fun, plus exercise for me and Alex hauling it from hill to hill.

In homeschooling news today, the kids colored kosher salt and made sand jars, which turned out surprisingly well.

I'd also caught snow for the last two days, let it melt today and showed the kids what was left - a couple of small particles. (You have to click on the picture and enlarge it to see them here.) So that's what you're eating when you eat snow, I said. It paid off this afternoon when Chooj picked up a handful and began stuffing it in his mouth. After a quick reminder, he quickly dropped it on the ground.
