A bad day for birds

We woke Wednesday morning to find that something had gotten three of our 12 guineas. It was probably a raccoon since the garbage was somewhat amuck too. I felt pretty bad for the guineas. We turned out the remaining ones along with turkey to bug hunt and I had all three horses out in the backyard too while Chooj and Hayes played in the kiddie pool.

The birds took off down the hill to the creek - bug haven! I peeked at them and Cherish, our rescued dacshund/Jack Russell mix attacked one. It happened to be Turkey and she killed it. Well, Hayes had to slide her way down the bank and found Turkey dead and it liked to break my heart - her holding that poor dead bird and crying her eyes out. We buried him where Hayes first found the nest.

The guineas never returned up the hill and our dog Ruffian was harrassing them into the evening.

Come Thursday, no more guineas, no more squalking. Sixty dollars flushed down the toilet.
