Venomous snakes at Kentucky Reptile Zoo

Our field trip this week was to the Kentucky Reptile Zoo, which houses one of the largest venomous snake collections in the world. They milk snakes every day to make anti-venom. Now isn't this a job everyone wants to have?
This guy has been milking snakes for 32 years and did it like it was nothing.

But this is what happens when you play with poisonous snakes, boys and girls, and this was just the left hand.
Here is a baby spitting cobra newly hatched the day before. Yeah, as far as snakes go, it was cute. Here is an adult spitting cobra that hooded up because we all startled it a bit:

In the collection of local snakes, this rattler has 17 buttons on its tail. The buttons are not an indicator of age. Rattlers grow a button every time they shed but they easily break off. This guy just lies around so his rattles aren't going anywhere.

This is a ball python, I think. The zoo's protocol calls for no one to deal with the "giants" alone but always have two people present at all times. Our tour guide said these snakes don't have to be very big to kill you. Nice.
