School starts

Our "official" schooling started Friday when I hand-delivered our "intent to homeschool" to the district office. And that was on our way to our first field trip, which was Reed Valley Orchard.
I'm so inspired by this family-owned operation. I couldn't begin to tell you how many varieties of apples they have but I was impressed enough with the blackberry patch.
Oops, got a sour one.
Picking peaches was like a treasure hunt. Most of the trees had been picked over and we had to search the branches. Chooj tried one just to make sure they were tasty.
The day before I promised the kids I would take them to the nearby lake. When we got there, I had totally forgotten they had a public pool so we did that since it wasn't too crowded. Chooj hasn't been in a big pool since last summer and hasn't really had the opportunity to practice any of his Infant Swimming Resource skills since he's grown so much and his body has changed. It's time for an ISR refresher since he absolutely refused to do his roll back to float while swimming! He was very proud of himself for swimming in the big pool though and so was I.
He's learned to cut with his Fiskars scissors that have a spot for the thumb and pointer finger. Every day begins with cutting now!
Earlier in the week, I threw the kids outside because it was nice and I was getting tired of the squabbling. So they found a mudpuddle to play in.
Look at the bruise Spellbound caused me when I was picking out her back hoof. She was uncomfortable standing on her swollen leg and kicked out to get me to let go. It has turned some very interesting colors.
G.G. can't stand for the kids to take her kittens out of the room. She's trying so hard to carry them by the scruff and you can just hear them mewing,"I can walk now! You don't have to carry me everywhere!"
