We have inherited a good-looking male turtle from our barn friends who found him over the weekend. We put him in the pen with three females and he got right to business! I felt a little funny to take a picture of turtle sex while our friends were here so I missed the opportunity and just didn't bother the rest of the day.
After half a day with that boy, the girls were done and they found an escape. We'd seen the male on one of the females biting at her head and she had her shell slammed shut.
I told Hayes when she was much older that she would understand about that female shutting up shop while that boy was harassing her. Hayes said she would put a cage around her bed and hide under it too.
One thing about living on a farm - there is no getting away from the facts of life!

Don't tell Hayes, but sometimes there is just nowhere to hide. Too bad we human females aren't armed with an impenetrable shell. Lucky turtle.
I would've totally taken the picture, people around or not!!!
