I took Hayes to see the horses gallop at the Camden Training Center but we were late and missed all of Shadwell Farm's horses going out. So we hung around the barn until Jennifer Leadbitter, the assistant trainer, came back on the lead pony. This is the first time I've been back to the barn since my friend Bob Witham died in December and it wasn't as terribly sad as I'd anticipated, although this picture of Jennifer leading Hayes riding Pepi makes me feel a little blue.
Hayes looks so good sitting on Pepi, doesn't she?
While we waited for Jennifer, Hayes gave some loving to this King Mambo-sired filly then we watched this son of Smarty Jones being hotwalked after his morning gallop. This colt is really looking good.
Hayes also got some loving from Tell Me No Secrets, whom she saw last October. Jennifer said this filly was giving away all her lovin'.
Last summer, Bob bought a racehorse and she was in training at Delaware Park, I think. I've been wondering what happened to her. This is her - Helen Four Legs.
She's being stabled with the Shadwell horses and Bob's family gave her to Jennifer. It is a truly fitting gesture. We'll be watching Helen. Win for Jennifer, Helen. Win for Bob.
