How to suck at horsekeeping 101

Alex and I have decided we just can't get ahead when it comes to our horses. We, like everyone else who has livestock, had to stock up on hay before winter. We don't have any hay storage so all 200 bales went on a gravel pad behind the house and covered with tarps. I began to notice that bales against the house were molding. Horses and moldy hay don't mix. Seriously don't mix. Sometimes we can pull the moldy part off - if we're lucky.
This week Alex finished a little tack room to go under the deck so we can get the feed, halters and saddle out of our laundry room. (Wow, what will I do with all that extra space??) We had to move and restack hay and here is where we discovered we only had about 17 bales of useable hay left. The rest was moldy, moldy, moldy and so here it sits in a big pile.

About $100 flushed right down the toilet.
The birds love it and the cats like climbing on it to get at the birds.
Drat and double drat.
Anyway, when we were out yesterday, we had to say hello to Hank, Hayes' pony. "Hello, Hank."
