Ourdoor Nature Hour: cotton tail rabbit

This week's assignment is to study the cotton tail rabbit. Our neighbor's raise rabbits for food, but it's too darn cold to even consider going up to observe them.
I read from the "Handbook of Nature Study" about rabbits while the children colored pictures then asked Hayes questions about what she heard. Her picture is not an Easter bunny, but a Christmas bunny. Go figure.

Alex took the kids out on the creek, which is almost completely frozen over. They found rabbit tracks all over, quite a bit farther down the creek from our house but still on our part of the property. It was great to make this observation after reading about the rabbit's hopping habit.
Rarely do we call them "rabbits" around here. The Cherokee word is always in effect: ginitsu.

Those are the most colorful rabbits I have ever seen....I love that they were creative. My daughter was always the "rainbow" color sort of gal and she would color everything in a rainbow of colors...brought back memories.

Anyway, save this study for a future time when you can observe your neighbor's rabbits...live rabbits. :)

We don't know anyone with rabbits. Sigh.

Thanks for sharing your notebook pages.
