Alex and I went to our Four Feathers Farm in Tennessee this weekend to collect more stuff needed around here. The place looks overgrown and sad, although I was able to collect lots of plants: lemonbalm, rosemary, spearmint, trumpet vine, rhubarb, sumac berries, two peach trees and an apple.
We loaded our trailer first with about 30 bales of hay my friend Lisa had for us. On top of that we placed six old wooden barn doors from a demo we did in Georgia. We loaded about six packs of new shingles garnered free from the local landfill and all of my clay planters.
From the shed we took a small woodstove, boxes of winter clothes and holiday decorations and then we loaded the couch from the cabin.
We visited friends Judy, Mike and Bruce and loaded wood Mike ran for us: oak and cedar flooring, which will go in our office and maybe our den.
It was quite the load to bring back! And we got stopped immediately on the Natchez Trace Parkway by the Park Service for hauling something other than for recreational purposes. I was trying to do the talking since I was the one driving but Alex had to keep piping in nonsense that I was sure was going to get us a ticket. We were able to go on without a ticket and make the long slow drive home. Now there's lots to unload, wash and pack away.
